The Over/Under Debate

Husband and I have debated this since we've known each other.  Toilet paper orientation.  Does it drape over the roll or does it come from under? Many a day goes by with one person shouting from the bathroom, 'Hey, you changed the roll! URGH!"  This weekend it came to a head when Husband found the roll he had placed in the master bathroom had been changed while he was sleeping.

Husband drapes it under. Which, I'm just going to throw right out there, is totally wrong. The paper will never tear and just keeps coming and then you are trying to roll it all back up into itself and it's getting bunched on the wall and by that time you've touched a million of the squares that someone else has to use.  It's really just a debacle. I, on the other hand drape the toilet paper over the roll, making it easy to see where to stop for optimal square usage. You also touch less of the roll. You know this has to be the right way to do it because how else would hotels be able to fold the ends in those little tiny triangles to show you the room is clean?!

Husband's way
Right way

We are not the only household having this debate.  You can google "toilet paper" and "toilet paper over or under" comes right up! Wikipedia has an entire entry on it called "Toilet paper orientation". Read it here. They write that Ann Landers brought it up once in her column and said it was her most controversial issue in the history of her column.

Husband read the whole Wikipedia article (per usual) and with a gasp said,

Can you believe some people change the roll at other people's homes?

Yes.

You can?

Yes, because I do?

What? Are you kidding me? That's so rude. That is someone else's roll.  I never knew this about you.

They must not know they are doing it the wrong way, so I fix it for them. Do you think differently about me now?

A little bit.

Thank goodness Husband and I agree on one thing with toilet paper: never buy generic.  Go big.  Go fluffy. Go with the one that's $1 more.  You won't regret it.
