The Commercials

So there's been some chatter out there that the commercials during the 2013 Super Bowl were as bad as the power outage. That's incorrect. The statement should be, the funny commercials missed the mark this year but the tear-jerking, heart-wrenching, Folgers Coffee-like commercials we're superb.

I don't think it's funny when a super model kisses a nerd. That's just college. Go Daddy can do better.

Samsung's The Next Big Thing ad really just debuted 2 actors in a conference room. Boring

Audi's prom ad was actually decent. Props to that kid. I guess there was one funny ad.

Now, on the other hand there were three ads that totally hit the mark. Husband and I both stopped, were silent and watched every second of these ads.

The Dodge Ram farmers commercial - superb! There was no fancy music or intense graphics. Just a slideshow of beautiful photos and Paul Harvey's words and voice. Pure. Simple. Heartfelt.

The Ford Whole Again commercial used Oprah as it's MC. It was simple too. It just showed life in the USA going on without moms and dads, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters. aunts and uncles. It was a beautiful tribute to the men and women who serve our country and their families who bear each long day of their absence.

And then there was the Budweiser Clydesdale ad. If you have or ever had a pet, you cried watching this commercial. You witness a farmer raise a horse from birth through it's prime and then give it away. Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for furry creatures and their owners and I could picture Penny and me in this ad. (Well kinda. Penny would never pull anything in a parade but I would go look for her and she would follow my car and jump in the seat next to me and want a snack and her head scratched.) Its just simply a beautiful ad and Stevie Nicks singing in the background never hurts.

PS - They named the Foal in the commercial "Hope". She was born January 16. She currently weighs 200 lbs. Full grown, she'll weigh 2,000 lbs. YOWZA!
